October was a busy month at Sofa To Sailboat.
Poppet:
Work has been continuing on Poppet. The hull, topsides, and deck have all been filled and waiting for their final sanding before we start the application of our paint scheme and Copper Coat antifouling.
We have provisionally arranged storage of Poppet in a 20ft shipping container for the next few winter months to keep her dry, we can haul Poppet out of the container work on her, and then tuck her back in again.
Charity Fundraising:
It was a slack month for our charity fundraising as donators feel the economic pinch from COVID19. We had a series of talks, presentations, and visits planned for winter but these have all had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Though through some kind online donations we have raised and passed on £1182.03 in total so far to: Macmillan Cancer Support, Mind, MS-UK, and St Helena Hospice (Colchester). You can donate to our charities here: DONATE
Sponsors:
Our sponsors have continued to support us and we have added a few new ones! We are proud to welcome on board: Aceleron, Kemp Sails, Mactra Marine, and Navionics.
Aceleron will be providing us two of their 100ah Essential LiFePO4 batteries.
Kemp Sails are kindly providing us with some modifications/repairs to our existing sails, setting us up for downwind sailing, and helping us with anything else that needs stitching!
Navionics are providing us with our digital mapping charts, and a subscription for our back-up tablet devices.
Mactra Marine are loaning us a 'watermaker' which will convert seawater into our fresh drinking water. The device will also be able to be operated manually in case of power loss/pump failure.
